What are you doing now?Teesheela Devi Woodun

Studying the BPTC at Northumbria University.

What was it about Northumbria that made you decide to study here?

I first decided to do my Law Degree at Northumbria University because I heard through sources that it provides Distance Learning study. My interest grew when I found out that the staff are very friendly and they reply to emails promptly. Furthermore, even the fees were affordable and they still are.

What was it like studying at Northumbria?

I loved studying at Northumbria through Distance Learning. The workbook was the best guide ever. There were lecture recordings online, seminars and the feedback was good. Overall, I got a power pack guide even though I was not physically studying in Newcastle.

How connected was your course with industry?

I was working as a Secretary in a chambers when I started my law degree and this really helped me to understand the judicial system.

What was the best thing about your course?

The best thing was the workbook and the guide provided and the exam-chapters which we received around 2 to 3 weeks before the exam.

How did studying at Northumbria help you achieve your career goals/ give your career an edge?

I wanted to become a barrister, so through my law degree I got entry in the BPTC course.

Which skills/knowledge did you learn on your course that you use most now throughout your career?

I learnt that studying alone and preparing for chapters is the best way to learn and eventually if you have issues you can discuss amongst friends if you know anyone doing the same course. I learnt how to interpret the law and apply it to the facts and this is helping me a lot in my BPTC as I am putting everything I learnt in my LLB in practice in the BPTC course.

What did you enjoy most about your time at Northumbria University?

The course overall since I was a Distance Learning student.

What advice would you give somebody who is considering studying at Northumbria?

Northumbria University is the best for doing an LLB and the Bar course. The fees are affordable and we even got the best tutors. It is located in the centre of Newcastle so even the city centre is near and the cost of living is nice compared to London.

How would you describe your time at Northumbria in three words?

My best days!
