London Alumni Networking Event Series

Northumbria University Alumni Association is delighted to invite you to attend the next event in our London Alumni Networking series, taking place Thursday 28 November 2019, 6pm - 8pm at QA's London centre, International House, St Katharine's Dock.

The third event in the series will feature talks by Professor Peter Cochrane OBE, Co-Founder of Cochrane Associates and Professor of Sentient Systems at the University of Suffolk; and Professor Lynne Coventry, Principal Investigator and Research Director of Psychology at Northumbria University and Principal Lead of NCSC Cyber Security Centre of Excellence.

Professor Peter Cochrane OBE will be presenting on the topic of 'Cyber defence strategy and resilience in the era of industry 4, AI and smart societies’. Peter is a university professor, futurist, entrepreneur, business and engineering advisor to international industries and governments. He has worked across hardware, software, systems, network and adaptive system design and operation.

He currently runs his own company across four continents and was formerly CTO at BT, The Collier Chair for the Public Understanding of Technology @ Bristol, and winner of numerous awards including, an OBE and IEEE Millennium Medal. With over 40 years of technology and operational experience, Peter has been involved in the creation and transformation of corporations. His BT career saw him progress to CTO with teams engaged in optical fibre, fixed and mobile networks, artificial life and healthcare, war gaming, eCommerce and business modelling.

Professor Lynne Coventry will be presenting on the topic of 'The human defender' where she will explore the role of human behaviour in cybersecurity, secure habits and the difficulties of changing these. Lynne is a university professor with research interests in the relationship between technology design and human behaviour. She has worked both in industry and academia and runs one of the few Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) groups to sit in a university psychology department. She works alongside technologists on a number of cybersecurity research projects to ensure a holistic approach to this topic.
