The awards for painting and sculpture are offered in memory and celebration of their father Tai Jee, and mothers Lim Ai Fang and Cheong Kam Hee, and will be awarded for the duration of Wee Teng’s lifetime.

Wee Teng is a graduate of Northumbria’s School of Law and also provides prizes for law students to celebrate their achievements and inspire success. He lives in Singapore but has retained strong links with the North East, maintaining a home in Durham, and links with many of his course colleagues since his student days.

Winner of the Woon Foundation Art & Sculpture Prize 2015, Kayt Hughes, said of winning the prize:

“I’m still in shock - the fact that I have won is still sinking in. This is the most incredible thing that could happen to me. It’s so important for Northumbria University to continue to support the arts, and for pursuing art to be recognised as a legitimate career path.”
