Recruitment to the Board of Governors

Professor Andrew WatheyWelcome from Professor Andrew Wathey, Vice-Chancellor and Chief Executive

Our Vision for 2025 is to be a research-rich, business-focused, professional university with a global reputation for academic excellence. Achieving strength in both education and research will secure the University’s success and sustainability in the context of greater competition and choice, globalisation and technology. Our ambition is to be in the top 30, and then the top 20, of universities in the UK.

Our ambitious Vision puts academic excellence at the heart of everything we do. The University’s major transformation that started a decade ago has achieved considerable successes, including the largest rise in research power in the UK. The University Strategy 2018-2023 is the latest step on this journey to shape Northumbria’s future in a time of increasing competition, globalisation and technological change. Our growing reputation, including being ranked in the top 50 UK universities, provides a strong foundation which will enable us to realise our ambitious goals.

At this exciting time, we are looking for a Chair and up to four Independent Governors to join our Board of Governors.  The Board of Governors has a stewardship and steering role. It constructively challenges and supports the Vice-Chancellor and Chief Executive, and the University Executive management team, to lead and deliver the University Strategy. As the University’s ultimate strategic decision-making body, it is collectively accountable for all institutional activities

We are looking for individuals who share our vision and have the motivation, commitment and ambition to help shape our future.

I hope that you find these opportunities as exciting as I do, and I wish you every success as you engage with our recruitment process.

Professor Andrew Wathey CBE FRHistS FSA FRSA
Vice-Chancellor and Chief Executive
