Biodiversity

Biodiversity is short for "biological diversity", the variety of life on earth. It includes all living organisms and the ecosystems in which they occur. Our Environmental Sustainability Policy includes our commitment to support biodiversity.

In our City Centre Campus we have Ellison Garden – a beautiful space in which staff and students can relax, and home to our University allotment. Our allotment is maintained by our Student Allotment Project. To get involved in this project, please contact the Sustainability Adviser.

Eco Allotment

We audit the biodiversity on our estate every two years, with many additional student projects monitoring performance and identifying scope for further improvement.  Our most recent audit was in summer 2018 and the new Biodiversity Action Plan is currently in development.

We are mapping the trees we have on our campuses, putting plans in place to not only maintain our trees, but to help them thrive. This year we are planting 12 new English Oak and Field Maple trees on the City Centre and Coach Lane campuses.

Visit the Sustainable Campus Map for more information on biodiversity on campus.
