What we do and who we are

Legal Services provides a wide range of internal and external legal advice, legal and related services, for the University and its subsidiaries in a variety of areas including: student matters; property; company and commercial; litigation; employment; and charity law.

The main role of the in-house lawyers in Legal Services is to:  provide legal advice and representation to the University, including its Faculties and Services and to its subsidiaries

  • To instruct, retain and supervise external legal service providers
  • To support the University in the development, application and review of University regulations, policies and procedures which involve legal and compliance issues
  • To raise awareness of legal issues and emerging legislation within the University
  • To draft and review legal documentation for a wide range of areas (please click here to obtain a copy of the Contract Checklist)
  • To advise and negotiate in relation to dispute resolution

What we don’t do

Legal Services cannot provide legal advice to individual employees of the University about personal matters. Legal advice can only be given in relation to matters arising out of work as an employee of the University provided that the employee’s interests are the same as those of the University.
