We’re here to help you make the move from graduate to professional through a range of activities to guide you on the right path.  The event will take place on City Campus in the Conference Suite, 4th floor, Sandyford Building on the 23rd or 24th May*.

Work with the careers team to analyse your skills and strengths, learn how to apply these within your CV and applications, gain knowledge of the North East and UK graduate job market and build your confidence to become a STAR at interviews.

Where do I go from here? Working out your best-fit future

Do you find it hard to talk about what you’re good at? Are you still unsure what to apply for? This session will enable you to identify your strengths and how they might best be put to use in the job market. This is essential preparation for finding the role that is right for you and being able to make strong applications to convince organsiations that you will be an asset to them. You will work (individually and with others) on practical exercises to:

  • Discover the distinctive skills and qualities that make you stand out.
  • Work out what motivates you.
  • Apply this to your jobsearch.

Winning CVs and convincing cover letters

A winning CV and cover letter is your gateway to the graduate job market. A CV is a personal marketing tool that can be used to build networking relationships, help you reflect on your skills and strengths and to apply for a variety of graduate positions. This practical session will explore:

  • What employers look for in a graduate CV and Cover Letter.
  • A range of CV examples to identify and share best practice.
  • How you can optimise the impact of your CV and applications.

Graduate Jobsearching and Labour Market Information

Learn about some key labour market information and resources to help you kick start your graduate job search in the North-East, U.K. and beyond. This session will include:

  • Strategies to engage with the graduate job market.
  • Information regarding a range of relevant websites, publications, membership bodies and recruitment activities.
  • Effective use of social media to build career contacts and think about job searching from a different perspective.

Succeeding at graduate job interviews

Interviews are often the final hurdle to landing that dream job but how do you ensure you’re the one offered the position? This informative and interactive session will enable you to:

  • Anticipate what interview questions are likely to come your way and how employers mark answers.
  • Learn how to react to the unexpected – “how would you order from a menu?” “what type of animal would you be?”
  • Successfully sell your university and work experience and consider what your best achievements are.
  • Practice strategies to give confident, well-structured answers to secure the job you want.
  • Consider what to wear and how use positive body language to improve your performance at interview.
