About the Speaker

Barry Gilbertson is an acknowledged expert in interpreting real estate markets. He was awarded the Estates Review Property Insolvency Award 2009, and specialises in strategic solutions for real estate within a business context.

Barry was an Equity Partner at Pricewaterhouse Coopers (PwC) from 1992–2011 having previously held Managing Director roles at a number commercial & residential investment & development companies.

More recently, he has held non-executive roles as an Independent Director of four public companies: Granite REIT (Canada), a $2.8bn real estate company; Rona Inc., Canada’s largest home improvement retailer; Custodian REIT plc listed on LSE, a £415m real estate fund; and a one-year turnaround role as Chairman of Conwert Immobilien Invest SE, Vienna, a residential investment company with 24,800 apartments and a large commercial property portfolio in Germany and Austria.

Barry was the 123rd President of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors in 2004/5 and was an advisor for the Bank of England from 2003-2014. He is currently Chairman of the City of Bath UNESCO World Heritage Site Steering Group, which oversees the production and implementation of the World Heritage Site Management Plan addressing the key tensions between development and conservation in the city.
