Domestic Violence in LGBT Communities - Wednesday, 18 April 2018

Northumbria University

Domestic Violence in LGBT Communities, Professor Catherine Donovan, University of Sunderland

Domestic violence in all forms tends to be an ‘invisible crime’: hidden from public view, even while exacting huge social and individual costs. Within LGBT communities other dynamics might add to this invisibility, especially in terms of accessing support from criminal justice and other agencies. The nature of these challenges, and potential solutions, are reflected on in this lecture.

Catherine Donovan is Professor of Social Relations, and leads the Centre for Applied Social Sciences. She has interests in the fields of sexuality, the family, and intimacy, particularly around domestic violence.
