Asia Perspectives – How Big is Singapore’s SMART Nation Aspiration?

“Smart city” initiatives have taken the world by storm, with the Asia Pacific region leading the way in high-profile examples in research, academia & business breakthroughs. Asian governments have been integrating IoT in their national development projects. India has an ambitious vision to transform 100 of its cities into smart cities. China’s central government has earmarked over 200 cities to pilot smart city projects. Amidst this intense development, Singapore is strategically positioned at the center of the action.

Singapore embarked on its Smart Nation journey in 2014; with the vision that the Internet of Things (IOT) technologies such as connected sensors and data analytics abilities could improve public infrastructure and services, and dramatically improve the way its citizens live, work and play.

Determined to be Asia’s first true Smart Nation, Singapore is putting in place the necessary foundation and policies to build capabilities and a supportive ecosystem to create a conducive environment so people and companies can take full advantage of the digital revolution to co-create innovative solutions not just for its own but also the rest of the Asian region.
