Future Visions - A Virtual NewcastleGateshead Experience

June -

The Zone - Ellison Building

Fly through Northumbria University’s virtual 3D city model and explore exciting and innovative “future visions” for Newcastle and Gateshead, as proposed by Northumbria architecture students. Taken from this year’s Reveal show, existing landmark buildings and empty plots across the city have been reimagined, with final designs augmented into the Virtual NewcastleGateshead model to provide an immersive experience.

Virtual NewcastleGateshead is a digital reconstruction of Newcastle and Gateshead, developed in partnership with both local councils. It is used as part of the planning process to consider new design proposals, as well as a wide range of academic and industry research projects.

This exhibition forms part of the Great Exhibition of the North, an 80-day cultural extravaganza. The Great Exhibition tells the story of how the North's innovators, businesses, artists and designers have shaped our present and how they are inspiring our future.

Running from 22 June - 9 September, three million people are expected to take part in Get North activities, making it the UK's biggest event this year, and Northumbria is playing a key role.

Northumbria’s programme of events and activities highlight the University’s excellence in diverse areas, from art, design and innovation, healthy eating and nutrition, computer science and gaming, to the experiences of volunteers in conflicts and emergencies.

Northumbria is proud to be playing a key part in the Great Exhibition of the North and staff and students have been working hard to bring a programme of inspiring events and exhibitions to the official Design Trail.
