Northumbria Global Development Summer School

Northumbria University

What is the Summer School about?

The Summer School is open to students in the North East of England.

Thinking of a career in International Development? Want to play a role in helping eradicate global poverty and inequality? Want to understand the attacks on aid?

The Northumbria Global Development Policy Summer School has been developed to help you understand the changing nature of aid and development policy. It will give you a chance to hear from and interact with leading development thinkers, academics and staff from development organisations, helping you understand the key players and who has the capacity to shape change.

Confirmed speakers confirmed include Shaun Hazeldine, the Director of Policy, Strategy and Knowledge at the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) in Geneva, Nick Deardan, Director of Global Justice Now, Ruth Mayne, Senior Researcher at Oxfam and other speakers from International NGOs, government bodies and campaign groups.

Structured to maximise dialogue, interaction and participation, the Summer School will tackle issues such as the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals, the pitfalls and potential of computer technologies in development and the role of young people in development, as well as topics raised by participants during the course of the Summer School. It will also provide opportunities for participants to shape development policy debates in the UK and internationally.
