A bend in the road is not the end of the road, unless you fail to make the turn

The study of chronic conditions, particularly where patients have more than one co-morbidity, indicates that inequities in access to and provision of specialist healthcare services are common, which can adversely affect the patient experience and clinical outcomes.

Professor Paul Gill’s inaugural lecture explores several funded studies, focusing on different chronic conditions, which collectively highlight several common themes that have important implications for clinical practice, and, as the title suggests, also outlines some important considerations associated with academia more generally.

About the Speaker

Professor Paul Gill is Professor of Nursing and Deputy Head of Department of Nursing, Midwifery and Health at Northumbria University. An experienced healthcare academic, Professor Gill has worked in the UK HEI sector since 2004. He has a special interest in research, innovation and knowledge exchange with a particular focus on chronic conditions, service user experiences, ECR development and qualitative methods.

Professor Gill co-led UoA3 review process for REF2014 (at University of South Wales) and REF2021 (at Cardiff University). HE is an RCBC Wales post-doc alumni and until 2022 was Cardiff University Operational Group Co-Lead (and funding co-ap) for RCBC Wales. I’m currently Professor of Nursing and Deputy Head of Department of Nursing, Midwifery and Health, Northumbria University.
