Mahmoud Abdelrahman

Dr Mahmoud Abdelrahman is a Senior Lecturer of Information Management and Business Analysis Systems and MSc Two-Years Programme Leader. He joined Northumbria University in 2015. He holds a PhD in Knowledge Sharing by Using Knowledge Management Systems to support Decision Making Processes in Multinational Corporations and MSc in Information Systems, Organisations and Management from Manchester Business School, The University of Manchester. He had his BSc in Business Administration and Management from Zagazig University in Egypt.

Mahmoud has an ideal blend of experience in teaching, research, supervising, designing different courses in Business Technology, Information Management, International Business Strategy, Information Systems and Business Systems Strategy for both UG and PG students. His experience was gained since 2002 through working at different schools and universities around the world like: Manchester Business School, School of Management at Royal Holloway, University of London, American University in Cairo and Zagazig University in Egypt.

Mahmoud’s research interests lie in the field of Business Intelligence, Knowledge Management Systems, Information Systems and Business Technology. He investigated the impact of employing knowledge management systems techniques to share knowledge and support decision making processes in multinational corporations. Using both quantitative & qualitative analysis and structural equation modelling, he produced a reflective/conceptual model for knowledge sharing by using knowledge management systems to support decision making processes. His future research plans are to build on the foundations of his research to further develop more models in conjunction with international business.

This experience improves his skills in research and teaching to deliver effective teaching, learning and assessment at undergraduate and postgraduate level by enriching him with the knowledge required for teaching, marking, supervising, doing administrative works, networking, conducting  qualitative and quantitative research methods; Organise and undertake field studies including interviews, surveys and participant observation; Contribute creative solutions to research challenges; Conduct publishable literature reviews; Contribute to comparative analysis across cases; Communicate regularly with the project team; Organise and support the regular team meetings; Initiate and sustain links with external bodies to foster collaboration; Liaise with international and industry experts; Assist in the overall coordination of projects; Assist with project management (monitoring implementation of work and deadlines); Organise conferences, workshops, public lectures and seminars, as required.

His current teaching interests include Technology & Information Management – Information Systems – Knowledge Management - Quantitative Methods – Project Management – International Business Strategy – Decision Making – Operations Management – Global management, people and the digital divide – Globalisation, the World Economy & MNEs.

Mahmoud was a consultant at AREOPA Group International; as he was working as a knowledge provider in a team responsible for covering: Project Management, Change Management, Risk Assessment & Process Performance, Public Sector Governance, Learning & Knowledge Management, and Intellectual Capital Calculation & Accounting.

Mahmoud is a reviewer of the International Journal of Productivity and Quality Management and the Electronic Journal of Knowledge Management. He is a member of the European Conference on Knowledge Management Committee (ECKM), the Association for Information Systems (AIS), the European Conference on Operational Research (EURO), and the Academy of Management (AOM).
