Natalia Blagburn

Senior Lecturer

Department: Newcastle Business School

Since joining Newcastle Business School, Natalia has designed and now runs several courses in Entrepreneurship and Enterprise, including Pathway in Entrepreneurship on the MBA Programme. She has been invited to speak at several academic and industry conferences and events.

Natalia joined academia from Venture Capital industry, where she managed investments into early stage companies, first at the regional £7.5m North East Angel Fund and then at the national £100m Angel CoFund. She was on the board of directors of six startup companies as investor-observer. Her background also includes supporting hundreds of early stage technology entrepreneurs with business mentoring and investor readiness training, which Natalia ran in Germany, France, the Netherlands, Sweden, Poland, Croatia, Bosnia and Slovenia. Her early career was spent as a technology consultant at Accenture PLC, a leading global consultancy firm.

Outside University, Natalia is a Governor of Newcastle High School for Girls and she also supports the Finance Committee of Northern Stage, the largest theatre producing company in the North East.

Natalia holds a joint Russian-British degree in International Business Management from Northumbria University and the State University of Management at Moscow, as well as a Masters in European Union Politics from Newcastle University. She is currently working on her doctorate in startup corporate governance.

My research interests include early boards, boards of venture-backed companies, board effectiveness and director behaviours.
