Stuart Barker

Graduate Tutor

Department: Nursing, Midwifery & Health

Stuart -John -Barker ,-Northumbria -University -web

Having attained a distinction in his PG Diploma in Education in Professional Practice the previous year, Stuart began work as a Graduate Tutor at Northumbria University in 2015.

Stuart qualified as a nurse in 2001, and subsequently worked in a number of clinical environments that allowed him to pursue his interest in acute cardiology. These included coronary care, cardio-thoracic surgery, and interventional cardiac catheter laboratories. During this time, he developed further interests in the education of students and simulation-based clinical education, which prompted him to study for his teaching qualification.

His role combines the teaching of pre-registration adult nursing, and studying for his own PhD, the focus of which will be nurse-led sedation and pain control during cardiac ablation.
