ADSS Clare Lavery Staffprofile 255I have worked for over 25 years as a teacher trainer, materials writer and consultant in EFL publishing. I have also taught for The British Council on short courses for specialists and curriculum leaders.
In the 1980s I worked in ESP in companies abroad and as the area Sales and Marketing Manager for French-speaking markets for Nelson ELT Paris. Subsequently as a teacher trainer and marketing consultant for MGP Language magazines in Italy and  as a trainer and writer of teaching methodology for Practical English Teaching Magazine promotion.
In the 1990s I worked as a teacher trainer for The British Council, National Ministry’s of Education and various stakeholders in Western Europe. During this period, I was involved in the up skilling of State School English teachers in Italy for PSLS/Lend and the British Council, the implementation of Primary Language reform with training of Primary English teachers in France and Italy, and the up skilling of teachers in Eastern Europe post 1991, sponsored by the British Fund and British publishers.

In 1993 I won First prize in the English Language Teaching Union’s textbook awards for innovation in the methodology of cultural content and worked extensively for over 10 years promoting the implementation of cultural content in curriculum planning in both Europe and South America. This included work as a trainer on short specialist courses for experts and in service CPD courses in western and Eastern Europe. I remain interested in all areas of design and implementation of innovation in content-based teaching, interdisciplinary teaching and CLIL.

In 2000 I conducted research into the needs of language assistants worldwide and tendered for The British Council Language Assistant Project. I worked from 2000-2004 as main Producer of materials for Language Assistant website (BBC online/British Council) and mentored language assistants on a BBC Online discussion group. My materials are currently available on both Language Assistant and Teaching English websites on a regular basis.

Since 2006 I have worked in the UK in EAP to International students in FE and the HE sector.
