Dr. Marco Lorusso

Marco is a Lecturer in Economics and joined the Newcastle Business School in July 2018. Before joining Northumbria University, Marco was Research Associate at Heriot-Watt University (Centre for Energy Economics Research and Policy) and collaborated with BP plc. for the Statistical Review of World Energy. In March 2018, he has been Visiting Scholar in the Institute for Capacity Development Department of the International Monetary Fund (Washington, D.C., US). Moreover, he worked at the Scottish Government (Office of the Chief Economic Adviser) and as Teaching Assistant at the University of Urbino (Italy) and the University of Perugia (Italy).

Marco obtained both his BSc (in Political Sciences and International Relations) and his MSc (in International Relations) with the mark 110/110 cum laude at the University of Perugia (Italy). Then, he completed the MRes in Economics at the Catholic University of Louvain (Belgium) with the grade of distinction. In May 2011, he was awarded his PhD in Economics and Finance by the University of Verona (Italy). In December 2015, he obtained the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Economics (PhD) from the University of Glasgow (Adam Smith Business School).

Marco has published his research outputs in several academic journals such as Energy Economics, Economic Modelling, Journal of Peace Research and Journal of Policy Modeling. During his academic career, he has accumulated teaching experience in different fields such as Macroeconomics, Microeconomics, Energy and Petroleum Business Economics, Energy Markets and Policy, Energy Economics, Public Economics, Economic Policy, Development Economics and Financial Markets.

Research Themes and Scholarly Interests

Marco's main research interests are in the fields of Macroeconomics, Fiscal and Monetary Policy, Energy Economics and Defence Economics. He has published his research outputs in several academic journals such as Energy Economics, Economic Modelling, Journal of Peace Research and Journal of Policy Modeling. Moreover, he has been awarded a Research Incentive Grant from the Carnegie Trust for the Universities of Scotland.
