Dr Emma Li

Senior Lecturer

Dr. Emma (Liying) Li joined Northumbria University as a senior lecturer in 2020. She received her PhD degree from University of Electronic Science and Technology of China (UESTC, China) in 2011. Then, she worked as a lecturer and an associate professor at UESTC from 2011 to 2019. She has more than 10 years of experience working on wireless communication and automation engineering. She published 40+ peer-reviewed papers and 1 book chapter. Currently, she is an affiliate staff at the University of Glasgow.

Dr. Emma Li’s research interests are in 5G and beyond wireless communications.  Specifically

  • High Performance Remote Robotic Control
  • 5G Wireless Communications
  • Internet of Things (IoT)
  • Security for Wireless Communication Networks


I am looking for high potential self-motivated PhD candidates with a background in electric and electronic engineering, wireless communication, signal processing, 5G and beyond systems, math, computer science, etc.
