Chibuzor Nnanatu

Research Fellow

Department: Mathematics, Physics and Electrical Engineering

Chibuzor Christopher Nnanatu, Research Fellow in Biostatistics at Northumbria UniversityChibuzor obtained both BSc and MSc in Statistics from Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka-Nigeria where he worked as an academic staff and rose to the rank of Lecturer II in Statistics. Chibuzor recently completed a PhD in Statistics at Lancaster University, United Kingdom with his PhD thesis entitled “Statistical analysis of partially observed epidemics”. During his PhD research, Chibuzor developed novel Markov chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) algorithms for inferring complex mathematical disease models  incorporating certain realistic assumptions such as spatial effects, multiple diseases interactions and disease models for open populations. He was a Graduate Teaching Assistant (GTA) in the department of Mathematics and Statistics, Lancaster University and a Research Assistant for Language and reading research consortium (LARRC). At present, he is a Research Fellow in Biostatistics at Northumbria University, Newcastle, United Kingdom.

Chibuzor is an associate member of London Mathematical Society (LMS) and a member of Nigerian Statistical Association (NSA).

Chibuzor’s role at Northumbria University, Newcastle involves the development of novel Spatial Bayesian Multilevel Geo-additive regression models for the prevalence of Female Genital Mutilation/Cutting (FGM/C) in some select sub-Saharan African countries. However, he is generally interested in:

  • FGM/C
  • EPIDEMIC MODELING
  • MCMC
  • BAYESIAN STATISTICS
  • COMPUTATIONAL STATISTICS
  • MACHINE LEARNING
  • SPATIAL, TEMPORAL AND SPATIO-TEMPORAL MODELING
  • GEOSPATIAL MODELING AND DISEASES MAPPING
  • WOMEN AND CHILDREN WELLBEING AND EPIDEMIOLOGY
