Dr Alison Pickard

Associate Professor

Department: Computer and Information Sciences

A -pickard -2I began my work in Information and Library Management in the late 1980s in public libraries and the commercial sector. In 1996 I was awarded an AHRB Research Studentship, which provided me with the opportunity to study full-time on my PhD. Exploring the impact of access to electronic and digital information resources on learning opportunities for young people.

I was appointed as a Lecturer in Research Methods in 2000, in 2002 I became Programme Leader for the BSc (Hons) Information and Communication Management and later introduced the BSc (Hons) Librarianship Work Based Learning. I became Head of Subject for Information and Communication Management in 2007 during which time I also developed a Professional Doctorate Programme in Information Science.

2007 saw the release of my first text book on Research Methods in Information, published by Facet. This text book has now been translated into Italian and is now in its second edition and is used as a core research methods text internationally. I am now Director of CPD and Collaboration for the Faculty, a role which allows me to combine my research passions, my teaching interests and my professional expertise.
