John Stephens

Senior Lecturer

Department: Sport, Exercise and Rehabilitation

Previously worked clinically as a chartered physiotherapist within the Royal Navy and National Health Service, taking up a Senior Lecturer-Practitioner post with Northumbria University in 1996. In 2001 moved to full-time academia. Main interests (research and practice) lie in curriculum design and development, which formed the basis for PhD by publication 'Hasten slowly you will soon arrive: Space, dialogue and participation in support of a Dialogical Curriculum Framework'.

Roles within the organisation have included Module Tutor, Programme Leader, Faculty Director of Teaching and Learning (Development, Approval and Review), and involvement with delivery of international programmes. Roles outside of the University have included External Examiner  (currently University College, Cork), Chartered Society of Physiotherapy Education Committee (2013-2017), Chartered Society of Physiotherapy Charitable Trust Educational Awards Panel (2014-2018), Chartered Society of Physiotherapy Education Representative (current), Public Governor Gateshead Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust.
