Helen Truran

Graduate Tutor

Department: Social Work, Education and Community Wellbeing

Helen is a registered Occupational Therapist who joined Northumbria University as a Graduate Tutor in September 2016.

With academic roots in arts and literature, she began her career working in community arts education and special educational needs settings before combining these interests by undertaking professional training as an Occupational Therapist at Leeds Beckett University. After qualifying Helen developed a strong interest in innovative areas of practice and has worked in the third sector in new and developing community projects in young people’s mental health and in a specialist school for children with Austim Spectrum Disorder and learning disabilities. In her role Helen contributes to teaching and learning on the BSc and MSc Occupational Therapy programmes while undertaking a doctoral study in the field of occupational science, public health and social inequalities.
