Research Themes and Scholarly Interests

David Wood is Professor of Engineering in the Smart Materials and Structures Research Group at Northumbria University. His expertise is in MEMS and microsystems technology, with recent research examples that include microfabricated cantilevers and high aspect ratio SU-8 lithography, microgrippers for cell manipulation, microelectrode arrays, catalytic arrays, high frequency MOM diodes, and selective Leidenfrost activated surfaces. He has won awards from EPSRC and many companies to support this research. He has significant expertise in microfabrication techniques and was responsible for the design, implementation and development of one of the UK’s leading clean room facilities.
