Student Smartcards

Academic Registry produces smartcards for all new students.

A Northumbria University smartcard is :

  • University ID card
  • Northumbria Students' Union membership card
  • Attendance monitoring card

As part of our partnership with Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences (AUAS) you will also receive an AUAS smartcard.  This will be your:

  • Library card
  • Access to Campus buildings card
  • Payment card for printing and photocopying
  • Access to sport facilities card

You should never be without both smartcards!

The photo you uploaded as part of your enrolment will be the image that is printed onto your Smartcard. It is important that you collect your card at the earliest convenience as you will require it to gain access to many parts of the campus.  Please see link at the bottom of this page regarding requirements for smartcard photograph.

When you collect your smartcard you must bring with you an official form of photographic identification. We will only accept one of the following items:

  • Passport
  • Photographic Driving Licence
  • Proof of Age Standards Scheme (PASS) Card

Your photographic proof of identification must be valid and the expiry date must not have passed.

Collecting your Smartcard:

Your Smart Cards will be generated after you have completed your enrolment.

You will receive an email when your smartcard is ready for collection. Collection will take place from the Ask4Help Service Point of the Ground Floor of Fraijlemaborg Building between the hours of 10am and 1pm, Monday to Friday.

Your Smartcard is non-transferable and may only be used by the person whose name and photograph appears on it. The card is valid for all campuses of Northumbria University and should be carried at all times.Cards that have been lost or stolen must be reported to an Ask4Help point, a £5 charge is applied if the card has been lost or damaged.  Any changes to a student’s first and /or surname will need to be verified by the Student Progress Team before a new Smartcard can be produced.  If you change the course that you are studying, a new card will be printed automatically when you enrol.
