Academic Registrar and Director of Student, Library and Academic Services

Maggie was appointed Academic Registrar in April 2014. She oversees the Academic Registry which is the main academic support team in the University.  There are 4 teams within the Registry. The Quality and Teaching Excellence Team supports learning and teaching policy, approval and review, accreditation management and governance and enhancement.  There is also a small academic led Teaching Excellence and Student Outcomes Teams. Registry Records and Returns supports SITS including arrangements for enrolment, programme and module records, timetabling, examinations and ceremonies, returns to HESA and PSRBs.  Academic Support includes the Graduate School, Educational Partnerships including CV, Degree Apprenticeships and campuses and faculty based teams focussed on assessment management, start of year planning etc.

  • Library - manages 3 libraries and a comprehensive range of digital resources; academic skills development
  • Graduate Futures - careers advice, enterprise advice and support, employability
  • Quality and Teaching Excellence - supports learning and teaching policy, approval and review, accreditation management and governance and enhancement
  • Registry Records and Returns - supports SITS including arrangements for enrolment, programme and module records, timetabling, examinations and ceremonies, returns to HESA
  • Student Life and Wellbeing - support for mental wellbeing and disabilities, VISA advice, hardship funding etc.
  • Student Engagement - Ask4Help and Student Engagement teams to respond to all student queries, placement support, change of circumstances
  • Teaching Excellence and Student Outcomes - academic led enhancement

Maggie also works closely with the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Learning and Teaching), services and senior academics in the faculties, to improve the student experience at Northumbria.

Maggie joined Northumbria in April 2014 as Academic Registrar.  In July 2019 she was appointed Academic Registrar and Director of Student, Library and Academic Services.

Before joining Northumbria, Maggie worked at Newcastle University.  For ten years she was Head of the Student Progress Service. This covered many aspects of the student lifecycle including: postgraduate admissions, registration, the student services support team, examinations, research student support, visa support, student casework, University regulations, timetabling and congregations. Previous roles at Newcastle University were in faculty support and in management information (HESA returns). Her higher education career started as Student Records Officer at Sunderland University in 1991.

Maggie has a BA in Geography from King’s College London, a Diploma in Management Studies from Sunderland and a Certified Diploma in Accounting and Finance from Northumbria.  She is also proud to have obtained an MSc in Business Information Technology at Northumbria University.
