MRes Psychology: A student insight

Study

I am into my second semester of the programme now, so far, so good! As part of the programme, you are on a placement - for example, mine is in Type 1 Diabetes, sleep, stress and diet, supervised by Dr Michael Smith. Other placements include research placements in one of the research labs:

Running a research project and working alongside excellent academic and fully supportive staff is something that I am extremely happy with. We also have lectures and demos on some of the research facilities. For example, in the video below, filmed in the BRNRC, there is a demo on Near Infrared Spectroscopy (NIRS), a technique used in cognitive research and more.

Dr Michael Smith is also the current programme lead. In the video, he provides a brief overview of the MRes Psychology programme. As a home student, I show you what I get up to on the course and some of the brilliant research facilities we have available to us. I also show you how I like to relax. Finding something that helps you relax is super important - though the course is very enjoyable, as any Masters, it can be intense at times. We have lectures generally on Tuesdays and some Mondays, so the rest of time is spent researching my project placement or thesis and completing assignments with copious amounts of tea.

I hope you enjoy the video - look out for my beloved cat - as well as some info on favourite Newcastle foodie places at the end!
