We know not all of our students are able to head home for the Christmas break. But staying in Newcastle over Christmas and New Year by no mean has to be a sombre affair. Best of Cinema 2018 at Tyneside Cinema: 26 Dec 2018 to 2 Jan 2019
In between Christmas day and New Year you can relive the best cinema of 2018 at Tyneside Cinema. From Boxing day to New Year’s day you can re-experience some of the amazing hits in the cosy independent cinema. Grab some popcorn and enjoy a screening of one or more of the many carefully selected films such as; Star is Born, BlackKklansman, Darkest Hour, Ladybird, Mamma Mia! St James Park Stadium tour with Pub lunch
Make use of the quiet period after Christmas and explore the iconic grounds of St. James’s Park. A £22 ticket includes a 90 minute walk around the pitch and a behind-the-scenes look at the impressive stadium. The tour is wrapped up in time for a two-course lunch in the stadium’s NINE bar. Yum!
Exposed: The Naked Portrait at the Laing Art Gallery
Why not take a wander around the Laing Art Gallery this winter, to soak up some culture. Exposed: The Naked Portrait is a fascinating exhibition that re-imagines and redefines the human body that has long been a key subject for artists throughout the centuries. The collection of naked portraits borrowed from the National Portrait Gallery explores the relationship between gender, sexuality and idealised bodies in portraiture, while also exploring through feminist theory how the body can break away from notions of the ideal form. Portraits include a range of famous faces including Naomi Campbell, John Lennon and Yoko Ono. Featured artists David Hockney, Annie Leibovitz, Linda McCartney, Tracy Emin and David Bailey.
Tickets are usually £10 but students get in for only £7.20!
Dine by the Tyne
If there are a few of you staying in Newcastle over the holidays get your group together to enjoy unspoilt views of the river Tyne in your very own private Igloo. These glass pods located on Baltic Square are the perfect place to spend time with friends and enjoy a delicious three-course meal.
Tickets may sound a little pricey at £249 a pod, but based on 10 per pod, this works out at £24.90 per person, including a three-course meal courtesy of the amazing Colonel Porters and a welcome drink on arrival. Not too shabby! If you want to attend this unique dining experience alongside the famous Millennium Bridge, make sure to grab tickets fast as the pods will be gone by 31st December.
New Year’s Eve - Quayside midnight fireworks
Head down to the Quayside on the 31st December to ring in the New Year in style. Newcastle Gateshead Initiative will be helping us celebrate the New Year with an impressive firework display at the stroke of midnight.
