If you need some light relief during the dreaded exam period make sure to get out into our wonderful city and enjoy some of the fresh new events on offer in the month of May.

 

Brunch at Banyan

If you are looking for somewhere new and interesting to eat, for brunch or dinner why not take a visit to Banyan, one of Newcastle’s coolest new eateries. Look out over monument and choose from a range of dishes including plenty of vegan and vegetarian options. Options include  And to top it off, finish your delicious meal with a few scoops of ice cream made locally from Di Meo’s Ice Cream Parlour in Whitley Bay. Yum. 

 

The Late Shows: 17th- 18th May

The Late Shows is always worth attending when it's in town, with cool venues all over the city taking part in a weekend of fun activities. This year’s cultural crawl takes place on Friday 17th to the 18th May.

Take a free tour down in the depths of the famous Victoria Tunnels, visit the Flea Circus on Warwick Street to see a stunning collection of artwork by Polish artist Karolina Borchardt (1905-1995). Or grab a drink and peruse an exhibit at Tyne Bank Brewery which includes artwork by 25 local artists, as well as street performers, animated projections and live art.

 

Dippy at the Great North Museum: From 18th May

After an exciting trip touring the UK, Dippy the Diplodocus will be stopping off in Newcastle before he returns to his 100 year home in the Natural History Museum in London.

Dippy was originally unveiled to the British Public back in 1905 and is actually a cast of an original specimen found in America spanning 21.3 metres long, 4.3 metres high and 4.25 metres high. You can visit Dippy at his temporary dwelling at the Great North Museum from the 18th of May all the way to the 6th October.

 

Harry Potter Banquet Hall: 31st May

Want to make some magical plans to make the most of May? Newcastle’s renowned Blackfriars restaurant will be hosting an amazing Harry Potter themed supper on Friday 31st of May. Grab your robes, and house scarves and head to Blackfriars for a three course meal in the amazing medieval surroundings dating back to 13th century. Supper even includes a welcome butter beer. Make sure to book in advance if you don’t want to miss out.
