Christmas cheer has truly arrived in Newcastle. If you are needing a pick-me-up in between assignments or just fancy a stroll out, make sure to wrap up warm before you head into the Toon this December. We have a few activities on our ‘nice’ list. Take a look…

Christmas at Tyneside:

Nothing describes the festive period more than cosying down with a favourite film. And there is no better place to do that in the city than Tyneside cinema, an independent cinema and news theatre based in a beautiful grade II listed building. This December they are playing plenty of timeless classics from 80’s escapade “Gremlins”, “A Muppets Christmas Carol”, “The Grinch” to noughties romcom “The Holiday”. The Holiday screening even comes with a “survival kit” containing prosecco, popcorn and tissues.

Festive afternoon tea at The Biscuit Factory 1 & 8 December

If you really want to treat yourself before the festive proceedings begin why not gather your mates and celebrate the end of term with a festive afternoon tea with a twist. The Biscuit Factory’s new social space Artisan will be serving up spiced rum and raison scones with coconut cream and winter berry compote, along with game sausage rolls and turkey brioche with winter slaw. Yum.

Tickets cost £25.

Christmas Carol Live at the Castle : 5-9 December

Climb the ancient stairs up to the castle and you will be met with the characters from one of our favourite festival tales written by Mr Dickens; A Christmas Carol. From the 5th – 9th of  December you can watch the ghostly yet heart-warming story of Ebenezer Scrooge played out with live puppetry accompanied by live music. This performance is by the award winning Life and Limb Puppets Company based in Newcastle. Grab yourself a drink or something supplied by the castle or bring your own snacks. Just make sure to wrap up warm as the castle can get pretty chilly in winter.

Tickets from 16.50

Northumbria University Carol Service: 9th December

Join us in our annual Carol Service at the beautiful Newcastle Cathedral at St Nicholas Square. This event gives you an opportunity to sing along to traditional Christmas carols and will include performances from the University and Cathedral Choirs. The service starts at 6pm.

The Snowman at Sage:  22 – 24 December

If you find yourself struggling to get into the Christmas spirit there is no better way to remedy that than to watch the heart-warming and universally loved animation “The Snowman”. The annual screening will be held once again this year at the Sage in Gateshead.

Tickets are £22 each and selling fast!

Hadrian’s Tipi

Keep warm this winter with a visit to Hadrian’s Tipi in The Stack shipping container village. Feel all things hygge by settling next to the log fire with a hot cup of hot chocolate or mulled wine. If you are feeling peckish pick up a traditional Bavarian bratwurst at from the grill hut.

London Campus:

Spitalfields Market

For those located on our London campus, why not take a look at the Spitalfields Market this December. Take your pick of gourmet street food from a sub sandwich from Sub Cult to nutritious Japanese street food from Rainbo. Of course this is also a great opportunity to pick up some Christmas presents from a whole range of independent boutiques or just treat yourself for finishing exams!
