Five reasons why to choose Northumbria

Study

Clearing 2021 is fast approaching and Northumbria University has over 130 courses available this year. Choosing a university to apply to can be difficult, so we’ve put together our top reasons why to choose Northumbria.

But first of all, you might be wondering what clearing is and how you might benefit from it.

Clearing is a direct way to apply for university and is an option for those who:

  • Don’t meet the entry requirements for their chosen course and need to find a new university place
  • Do better than expected and want to apply to an institution with higher boundaries than their offer
  • Change their mind about their course or university and wish to apply somewhere new
  • Have taken time out after their results and now wish to apply directly to university

The biggest misconception about Clearing is that it’s only for people who don’t meet entry requirements. As you can see above, there’s multiple reasons why students go through Clearing and it’s worth thinking about how you might use Clearing ahead of results day. It’s always best to be prepared and save yourself unnecessary stress! If you aren’t sure which clearing route might be for you, then you can take our Clearing Quiz now to find out.

So, we’ve gone through what Clearing is, but now it’s time to showcase our top five reasons why you should consider applying to Northumbria. They are:

  • Modern Campus Northumbria has invested more than £250m in its campuses to provide students with a world-class experience during their time at university. A particular stand out is Sport Central, a £30m state-of-the-art sports centre, providing facilities of the highest quality for our students and staff. Why not check out our facilities in our online interactive virtual tour?
  • Campus Library Our university library is one of the best academic libraries in the UK. It contains around half a million print books, as well as over 900,000 e-books and around 85,000 e-journals. Our Ask4Help team are located within the library and they are there to provide support/guidance for any problems or queries you may have.

  • Best Student City Newcastle was voted the Best Student City by The Student Hut 2020. Newcastle is regularly hailed as one of the best cities for student life and this is partly due to the city’s compactness, making it large enough to be vibrant and exciting whilst small enough to feel like home. It’s also due to the sheer number of students, in fact one in every six people in the city is a student! Find out more about Student Life in Newcastle by visiting our Life in Newcastle page.
  • Academic Excellence Our programmes are developed in close consultation with industry experts, ensuring you develop the knowledge and skills employers are looking for. We have a global reputation for academic quality and conduct ground breaking research that is responsible to the science & technology, health & well being, economic & social and arts & cultural needs of communities. If you’re interested in finding out more about research happening in your chosen subject area, you can do so here.
  • Top 30 UK University Northumbria University is now ranked in the top 30 universities in the UK, after a significant 20 place rise in The Guardian University Guide 2021.
