OSCE Testing Centre

Northumbria University in partnership with The Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and Newcastle City Council has been awarded a contract to become one of five national OSCE testing centres.

All new nurses in the UK – whether they have been recruited from overseas or if they have taken a significant break from their nursing career – must complete an Observed Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) as part of their ‘Test of Competence’ before they can be registered to practice. Northumbria University together with partners will be working in close collaboration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) to support the NHS, private and third sector organisations in expanding the nursing workforce in the UK.

The Test of Competence enables professionals to demonstrate to assessors that they have the skills and knowledge to care for people safely and effectively.

Northumbria University is now working closely with its partners in preparation of receiving its first OSCE candidates from February 2022. Details on how employers and candidates can book tests will be announced later this year. If you are interested in completing your Observed Structured Clinical Examination at Northumbria’s OSCE Testing Centre or you as an organisation are planning for your current or future staff to undertake the OSCE Test of Competence, please complete the Register Your Interest form below and you will receive further information regarding the examination and bookings in due course.
