Course summary

Our Surveying Masters course will help you move into a new field, or advance your current surveying career. Whether you’re working in the field and want to take a step towards Chartered Surveyor status or you’re looking to launch your career in the industry, a recognised MSc will help increase your earning potential.

Northumbria’s Masters is one of the only online courses to offer three specialist pathways: Quantity, Building or Real Estate Surveying. Choose the area that reflects your career interests and tailor your learning. All our Surveying MSc pathways give you a practical understanding of the fundamentals of the discipline – no prior experience is needed. And each is accredited by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS), so by graduation you’ll be industry ready.

Open to anyone with a 2:2 undergraduate degree, in any subject (or international equivalent), our courses are designed to be as flexible as possible. You can study at any time, from anywhere, making it easy to fit studying in around your life and work. Plus, choose from four start dates: January, April, July or October.

The fees for the 2023/24 academic year are £9,960* which you will be able to pay in module by module instalments.

Distance Learning at Northumbria

Our course is taught entirely online. You’ll study from home – or wherever you like. There’s need to come into campus at any time.

As a distance learning student, you’ll benefit from:

Assessments

The form of your assessments will vary between modules but all of them will be submitted online. There will be no need to come to campus.

Entry requirements

2:2 honours degree minimum or an international equivalent.

Candidates who do not meet these academic requirements, but can demonstrate relevant professional experience or other qualifications may apply and be judged individually on merit.

Course fees

£9,960 total for UK, EU and International students in 2023/24 academic year*.

You will be able to spread the cost of your fees throughout the duration of the course, paying in module-by-module instalments.

Building Surveying Pathway

For those who like to be physically involved with buildings and who feel at home onsite. Specialise in the design, development, repair and maintenance of buildings. Develop your ability to diagnose defects, refurbish existing buildings, manage facilities and maintenance, and monitor contracts and procurement.

Real Estate Pathway

For commercially minded would-be property developers. Become an expert in valuing commercial property, managing property assets, analysing property market data, evaluating property proposals, ensuring compliance with planning policy frameworks, and acquiring sites for building.

Quantity Surveying Pathway

For the office-based calculators, planners, and project management types. Gain exposure to every element of quantity surveying. Study key industry issues, while enhancing your knowledge of writing specifications, tendering, managing contracts and projects, procurement, construction law and dispute resolution.
