Meet the Team

 Professor Christine De Lille

Professor De Lille joined Northumbria University in 2022 from The Hague University of Applied Sciences in the Netherlands, where she held the positions of Professor of Innovation Networks and Co-Director of the Centre for Expertise “Mission Zero”, a research group working to create zero-carbon economies. Christine has extensive research experience and expertise in the areas of design, management, living labs and systemic design, and has worked closely with industry partners including Royal Dutch Airlines (KLM). She has also secured large-scale funding on projects, such as Horizon2020, RVO & NWO (Dutch National Government), and industry.

I joined Northumbria University in 2002 as a Lecturer in Strategic Management. Since then, my role towards the development and growth of Northumbria as an internationally distinguished centre of academic excellence has evolved towards an academic leadership position, I am currently Deputy Director Northumbria Amsterdam Campus and London Campus. As a professional my aim is to ensure Northumbria University continues in its path to be a highly attractive university for students and academic talent, shaping the higher education sector nationally and beyond.

Senior Lecturer Dr. Mario Schaarschmidt

Dr. Mario Schaarschmidt is Senior Lecturer (equiv. to Associate Professor in US academic systems) in Digital Marketing at Northumbria University’s Amsterdam Campus. Previously, Mario held positions as Assistant Professor of Technology and Innovation Management at University of Koblenz-Landau (Germany) and as Interim Professor at Paderborn University and University of Cologne. Whilst at Koblenz, Dr. Schaarschmidt was also a member of the Institute for Web Science and Technologies (WeST) and served as a Vice Academic Director of the Central Institute for Scientific Entrepreneurship and International Transfer (ZIfET). He has over 15 years of experience on delivering teaching on Bachelor, Master, and PhD levels.

Charlie began working as the Innovator in Residence for Northumbria University in November 2019. After graduating with a MA in Multidisciplinary Innovation Charlie worked in London as a Content Manager for a Cryptocurrency start-up company. This provided the opportunity to work with many diverse businesses and backgrounds and it is this aspect of innovation that Charlie enjoys the most. Following a successful launch, he returned to the North East to further pursue his passion for design. Charlie has a strong design background, completing his BA in Design for Industry in 2017.

Dr Julia Benkert is a lecturer in Responsible Leadership at Northumbria University’s Amsterdam Campus. Her key responsibilities include programme leadership of the joint degree MSc Global Sustainable Business Management (MSc GSBM) which is jointly delivered by Northumbria University and Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences (AUAS) in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. Her research includes work on business sustainability, business ethics, ethical leadership, intercultural organising, and social value creation in cross-sector partnerships. In building on her professional experience as a consultant, Dr Benkert seeks to deliver research with social impact that is generated through strong and collaborative engagement with community and industry stakeholders.

 Lecturer Jennifer Li

Jennifer Li is a lecturer and PhD Candidate at Northumbria University Amsterdam. 

Jennifer gained her MSc in Project Management with Distinction in 2016 and, prior to that, worked in the nuclear industry where she developed and ran a world-class graduate training programme for engineers and scientists across the UK and internationally.
