Distance Learning

MA in Preventive Conservation

The learning outcomes are the same for both the distance learners and the campus based students. Although the distance learner engages with the programme via the internet it has been developed to provide a similar level of student support and student interaction as would be possible for a campus based student. The teaching and learning is conducted through an e learning portal via the internet. Students are provided with an induction to the programme structure and content as well student support services, IT support, discussion boards and chat rooms. In most cases reading lists are drawn from electronic websites offering materials in PDF format or the opportunity to buy directly on line.

The advantages of the distance learning format are:

• Economic - since students do not incur the expense of travel and subsistence in the UK and could even remain in employment should they select the part time option
• Cultural – since students can focus on the type of artefacts in their own country or collection
• Environmental – since students can focus on the environmental challenges in their own region
