Dance, Drama, Performance and ScriptwritingNewcastle has a range of well-established theatre and arts venues, presenting local, national and international product of the highest quality.

The Subject  currently offers 3 undergraduate programmes:

The common purpose of all our courses is to provide students with a rich practical experience underpinned by a rigorous theoretical analysis and strong subject-specific understanding of their chosen medium in order to offer a sound base from which to consolidate and further develop their own performance practice.

There are over 300 full-time students in the Performing Arts on the existing courses; and 9 full-time academic staff, supported by two full-time theatre technicians.

The teaching excellence of the subject cluster was confirmed in March 1997 when the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE) as part of a national programme conducted an assessment of the quality of education in Dance and Drama. This assessment scored six major areas of provision, awarding a maximum of four points under each heading. In recognition of excellence, the quality of education in Drama and Dance at Northumbria was awarded 22 points out of a possible 24, by the visiting team of Assessors.
