Arts and Social Sciences is committed to excellence in all of the research it does; visit our Research Showcase to learn more. Research Groups provide a stimulating research environment that encourages the production of top-quality publications that make a difference to the world and to how we think about it. Research Groups, however, are not only a home to staff, but also provide a forum of exchange for our PhD students. If you are interested in pursuing a postgraduate degree with us, please visit the Prospective Research Students page.
The university environment is highly supportive. Research-led enquiry and teaching define what we are about. A host of activities, initiatives and projects have been developed to ensure the promotion of cutting edge research of both national and international standing.
Arts and Social Sciences made a major contribution to the University’s Research Assessment Exercise (RAE) submission in November 2007, leading on five RAE units of assessment (Social Policy, Art and Design, History of Art, English and History). Since the RAE, we have recruited many new staff in all areas across our five Departments.
