Arts & Social Sciences is the home to an expanding Postgraduate Research Community of more than 130 students. A vibrant, interdisciplinary research culture is fostered within Arts & Social Sciences and its Departments, for instance through Staff-Postgraduate seminars, PGR conferences and training.
Staff research expertise in English, Film and Media, Fine Art, History, Social Policy and Visual Culture underpins a dynamic postgraduate cohort of full-time and part-time students based here.
We have been awarded a joint AHRC Block Grant Partnership award (with the University of Sunderland). Being part of this prestigious block grant scheme supports quality research and professional training, with both Doctoral and Professional Preparation Masters Studentships being advertised annually in a select number of research areas. We also have annual competitions for internally funded studentships.
