The Research and Enterprise Development (RED) Office provides research support for all staff and postgraduate research degree students (PGR) in the five departments of Arts and Social Sciences. RED also produces a regular Research Newsletter, which describes the wide-range of research outputs. The main areas of support are set out below. Please visit the links on the left for further details.
With respect to PGR students, the RED Office is responsible for oraganising each stage of their experience of life at Northumbria: enrolment, induction, Initial Project Approval (IPA), Mid-Point Progression (MPP), annual monitoring, and, finally, the appointment of examiners. RED is also there to advise students and supervisors on compliance with the University’s PGR Code of Practice and the relevant University research degree regulations and frameworks. Please visit the PGR support page and the documents and handbooks page for details. If you are interested in studying for a postgraduate degree with us, please Prospective Research Students.
For members of staff, RED assists in developing and supporting their interface with the Research Excellence Framework. The office maintains a base-room in which staff deposit research outputs as they are published. RED also looks after all issues of ethics around research and provides a dedicated publicity and media liaison office which supports staff in disseminating their research, and in organising conferences and colloquia. In addition, RED has a research officer with research council experience who identifies bidding opportunities, runs training sessions, and works with individuals and groups to prepare funding bids.
