We hold the HR Excellence in Research Award, which demonstrates our commitment and delivery of support to early career academic staff.

Our Vice-Chancellor’s Fellowships are designed to support you to develop your academic profile, whilst making a significant impact in your subject area.

As a permanent Academic, your first three years will be focused on developing your research profile and delivering high quality research with impact. Beyond this, you will take up a Lecturer or Senior Lecturer role within your academic department.

To help you to meet your ambitions, you will be assigned a senior Academic mentor, who will support your professional development and alongside your line manager will develop a tailored plan, which will include;

  • Generous amounts of time for research and development activity - It is important that you are involved in teaching and learning activity, but within the first three years your work will be focussed on research, development and enterprise activity.
  • Funding - You will have access to faculty and University funding to support your research, innovation and engagement activities: travel for field work, team meetings, external partner visits and pilot study expenses, materials etc.
  • Access to our Academic Development programme - Our Academic Development and Researcher training programme is extensive, providing training, support and development in all aspects of Academic activity. We will tailor a programme for you, focused on the key aspects of development you need to support you to achieve your ambitions.
  • Supported network of ECR’s -You will have access to our Early Career Researchers Forum and specific events and opportunities for Vice-Chancellor’s Fellows to engage with influential senior research leaders across the University.
  • Defined career pathway to Professorship - We want you to grow with us, and our Academic promotion programme will allow you to do just that. You have access to non-competitive promotion opportunities right through to Professorship – how long that takes is down to you.
