Northumbria’s Undergraduate Marketing department are looking for ‘Digital Content Creators’ to join their busy team.

Come and work with the University’s Undergraduate Marketing Team. You will be producing a wide range of blogs, vlogs, videos and photographic content for use on the University’s user generated content site, The Hub. These can range from writing about your experience as a Northumbria Student, reviews of gigs, hint and tips about revision, to creating videos around campus and interviewing other students and staff.

Job Title:       Digital Content Creator

Hourly: £8.18

Job Purpose:  To assist the Undergraduate Marketing Team with generating creative content, blogs and vlogs for the University’s user generated content site. This will be used as part of the UG 2019 conversion campaign and 2020 UG Recruitment campaign.

Responsible to:     UG Marketing Coordinator, UG Marketing Intern

Key Responsibilities:

  • Representing the institution in the capacity of a Digital Content Creator
  • Attending Digital Content Group meeting to discuss, plan and generate new ideas
  • Write, create and execute agreed idea to push out on the institution's user generated site or selected social media channels
  • Writing reviews, about a students own experience, attending events that are going on around the university or region, interviewing other students and members of staff, creating vlogs, writing blogs, taking photos, creating videos

The successful candidate will hold one or more of the following skills:

  • Video editing skills
  • Photography & videography skills
  • Copywriting skills
  • Presentation & camera-facing skills

Attendance Requirements: A maximum of 5 hours per week (subject to negotiation/confirmation) until the end of the academic year.

Main duties:

  • Write articles for prospective students and applicants to read as part of their research process for deciding which universities to apply to/accept
  • Create digital content to demonstrate Northumbria Uni Student life
  • Research and produce effective online blogs, vlogs and reviews to engage with prospective students and applicants
  • Source information and developments within the University and region for blogs, vlogs or reviews
  • Take part in photo shoots and videos for campaign promotion as and when required
  • Update the digital content calendar with proposed content ideas
  • Produce a range of video/photographic and audio content for use on the user generated site, social media channels and other appropriate distribution channels
  • Assist with other digital campaigns where applicable
  • Attend recruitment events (including Open Days) in the capacity of a Digital Content Creator
  • Attend Digital Content planning meetings and contribute to new creative content ideas
  • Create and execute these agreed ideas
  • Interview other students and members of staff

Working relationships:

Works closely with all members of the Undergraduate Marketing Team reporting directly to the Undergraduate Marketing Coordinator

  • Liaise with prospective students and Northumbria applicants
  • Liaise with current Northumbria students
  • Liaise with Academics
  • Liaise with Admissions and Student Recruitment teams when required
  • Liaise with wider Marketing department when required


The role is office based: Pandon Building, 1st Floor

Several projects will feature the following locations: Northumbria’s City and Coach Lane Campuses, North East region


Person Specification

Education and Training 

  • Currently studying at degree level with Northumbria

Specific Knowledge

  • Knowledge of higher education and the student experience


  • Good written/verbal communication skills. At ease in using them though various media
  • The ability to work as part of a team
  • Good organisational skills
  • Ability to demonstrate creativity
  • Ability to communicate with people on all levels
  • Ability to work on own initiative with little supervision
  • Ability to write articles, reviews, document own experiences, create vlogs, write blogs, create videos


  • Experience in using social media
  • Experience in Microsoft Office applications
  • Experience of creating and editing video/audio
  • Experience in blogging/vlogging


  • A can-do attitute
  • Drive and enthusiasm in completing tasks
  • A strong interest in developing digital marketing and communication skills
  • A desire to help recruit new students
