Learn from the Best

Designed by a multi-professional team including Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Nurses, Midwives, Social Care Staff and Medical practitioners our range of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) is tailored towards individuals who are driving and enabling practice development in NHS North East.

Northumbria is the principal provider of nurse education in the North East of England and was named Nurse Education Provider of the Year (post-registration) for three consecutive years by Student Nursing Times.

We have excellent relationships with partner services in health, social care and social work and our range of CPD provision supports practitioners and managers to engage in professional learning and then examine how this can be integrated in the practice arena.

Teaching and Assessment

The module will be built around a number of individual and group learning activities that will help you to explore the role of the Advanced Paramedic. You will learn through lectures, seminars and workshops. The lectures will cover the inter-relationships between the whole systems approach enabling you to systematically review key cases designed to support your learning and development. The workshop sessions will initially be facilitated by the module tutors and as the module progresses it will embrace an increasingly immersive interactive approach. You will be involved in and direct peer learning supported by the module team using simulation based education (SBE) to recreate clinical situations as you critically appraise your approaches to the patient journey.

Flipped classroom activities will inform the clinical situations under investigation and you will be expected to engage in pre-session activities to inform and engage in the peer led workshops. You will use a number of simulation scenarios to direct your learning and focus on the detail of the patient interactions including analysing the precision of your consultation management, history taking, examination and treatment plan incorporating the life science knowledge that has directed your differential diagnosis. Your lectures and seminar content will be captured using Panopto and presented on the e-learning portal for future reference and reflection on practice. Learning networks between peers will be encouraged and facilitated by the module team utilising eLP discussion boards and/or social media, inspiring classroom links to interact with your professional practice.

You will be expected to digitally submit a 3000 word critical reflective account of a patient episode from the module workshops, detailing the clinically significant relationships between life sciences, patient history, clinical examination and the treatment plan derived from the patient episode. This addresses all module learning outcomes (1-5).
