Masterclass on the Human Learning Systems approach
7 January 2020 | Half Day (12:30 - 17:00)

The Human Learning Systems approach is rapidly emerging as an alternative way to do ‘public management’ - the process of using resources for social good. It helps to frame different principles and practices which embrace the complex reality and challenges of public and voluntary sector action, freeing people from the wastefulness and demotivating effect of management by targets.

The session will:

  • Describe the Human Learning Systems approach
  • Enable people to engage with leaders who have put it into practice

  • Help to build a community of leaders who want to work differently

The session will feature contributions from:

  • Toby Lowe – Newcastle Business School, Northumbria University – co-author of the ‘Exploring the New World’ report which outlines the Human Learning Systems approach.
  • Gary Wallace and John Hamblin– Plymouth Alliance
  • Gateshead System Leaders, incl Mark Smith– Director of Public Service Reform at Gateshead Council and Brendan Hill, Chief Executive of the Concern Group
  • Habiba Nabatu – Lankelly Chase Foundation

The session will be relevant for any public or voluntary sector leaders (no matter what organisational position you hold) who want to enact a different way of leading and managing for social good.
