This is a 1 day course that will run on the following dates:

Wednesday 15th November 2023

Wednesday 28th February 2024

Wednesday 15th May 2024

This one-day course is suitable for anyone supporting members of the Armed Forces Community. You will be provided with resources to support ex-service personnel and their families more effectively.

The overall aim of the course is to improve the quality of care for exiting military personnel, veterans and their families by helping support workers and employers to understand how military life can impact upon civilian integration and provide strategies for effective practice. The course adopts an evidence-based approach and is firmly underpinned by the research carried out at the Northern Hub for Veteran and Military Families Research at Northumbria University.

The Northern Hub for Veterans and Military Families Research is one of the largest and most influential veterans and military families research centre in the United Kingdom.

The course is based on current evidence and research findings from the Northern Hub.

The Hub brings together academics, peer researchers and PhD students conducting translational research in the Armed Forces Community.  Research is both qualitative and quantitative, covering health and social care, public health, psychology, social policy, human geography, nursing and criminal justice.

The work undertaken in the hub is driven by the needs of veterans and their families, with a mission to support their integration into the community.

Nearly all of the staff in the Hub are veterans themselves or have a family connection to the armed forces community.

The Hub works closely with professionals to ensure our work is truly sector-led and responds to the most pressing issues.  We regularly collaborate with other academic institutions, military charities, the NHS and government organisations within the UK and internationally to produce high-quality and valued evidence-based research and practice for the armed forces community.  We then apply this knowledge to develop a range of resources and learning opportunities, as well as delivering tailored services, expertise and training.

This course can also be provided onsite at customers’ premises for organisations with larger numbers of employees.
