About this course

Aimed at qualified nurses and healthcare practitioners who are involved in the management of acute and chronic wounds, this module aims to develop your expertise in the assessment, treatment and evaluation of wounds.

You will have the opportunity to use theory and evidence-based wound care to explore the stages of wound healing and related complications, and relate these to your sphere of practice e.g. acute, primary or community care environments.

The module syllabus includes anatomy & physiology, assessment, wound bed preparation and the implementation of evidence based care.

You will also explore your role in health promotion and consider their legal and professional responsibilities in relation to wound care.

Teaching and Assessment

You will learn in both the academic and workplace settings. During lectures and seminars you will have the opportunity to engage in discussion and debate topical issues in tissue viability management.  You will also be able to access and use supplementary learning materials through the e-learning portal.

You will produce a case study for assessment which will aim to show how you have achieved the module’s learning outcomes. You will be expected to integrate theory and practice and show how you can apply the knowledge and skills you have learned in practice.

This module would suit practitioners (e.g. Nurses, Medical Practitioners, Physiotherapist and Podiatrists) who are actively involved in tissue viability management.

This course is based at our Coach Lane Campus where you will have access to cutting-edge facilities with technology embedded through all aspects of the module.

You should be a qualified nurse or healthcare practitioner, who is involved in the management of acute and chronic wounds. You will need to demonstrate evidence of previous study at level 5.
