As such studying these closely related subjects will give you a real insight into the way they are becoming increasingly critical to business and enterprise success.  You will also be much better positioned to develop your own innovative ventures, either independently or in an existing organisation.

What will I study?

 If you join us at Level 5 of your study, the programme will provide learning opportunities via an innovation-based consultancy project which will enable you to apply and validate your learning and skills in real world settings whilst also developing the skills of design led innovation, project management and analytics.

If you join us at level 6, you will be able to undertake an applied research project focused on enterprise and innovation to enable you to apply and validate your learning and skills further in real world contexts. You will develop crucial skills in design thinking and innovation whilst also understanding the importance of building an innovative culture through an organisation.

You will also learn how to implement strategy and sources of funding for entrepreneurial. You will also spend a significant amount of time developing your own personal competence as a learner, leader and entrepreneur.

How will I be taught and assessed?

  •  Lectures, interactive seminars and tutorials/workshops: 9 hours per week
  • Independent study: 31 hours per week
  • You will be assessed through coursework, essays, reports, presentations, portfolio and in-class tests.

Year Two (Level 5)

Students holding a Level 4 qualification in a business and management-related field, can directly join the programme on the Year Two (Level 5).

Learn how to effectively manage yourself and your studies, how to find appropriate information and use this in your academic writing, develop your academic voice across different communication styles, as well as developing your critical and ethical skills in your studies.

  • Develop your skills in effective communication, independent and critical thinking, and explore how these can be applied to independent research projects.
  • Examine the process of recruitment and selection, and explore the production of CVs, cover letters and the use of psychometric tests.

Learn how to develop a research question, and linked to this, be able to choose an appropriate method of research, combining both learning experiences to the development of a critical assessment of the academic literature.

  • Gain a basic understanding of research philosophy, ethics and how this underpins research of quality and integrity.
  • Learn what role ethics play in study design, participant selection, data collection, data handling and storage and presentation of research findings.
  • Explore how to apply quantitative and qualitative research methods.
  • Use a range of appropriate software tools, including Excel and SPSS.
  • Learn how to execute a critical and effective analysis of your research data.

Develop the knowledge and skills in change management essential for management and leadership careers success.

  • Explore organisational change concepts, triggers (internal and external including digital technologies) of organisational change.
  • Understand the nature of change in organisation and drivers of change and overcoming them.
  • Gain knowledge on politics and culture in the change management, strategies to lead and manage a change and change management skills.

Develop your understanding of entrepreneurial cultures and the personal and professional attributes needed to operate successfully in a business environment.

  • Gain skills in new venture development or entrepreneurial innovation, design and strategic thinking through demonstrating a Digital Entrepreneurial Mindset.
  • Explore technology, using data driven decision making, leveraging cloud space, adopting an agile thinking approach.
  • Develop a digital entrepreneurial mindset to augment your creative business mindset, professionalism, and networking skills.

Using a real world organisational issue, understand the context of consultancy project and how to lead a change in the complex business environment.

  • Develop a creative way of leading teams, managing resources, demonstrate consultancy skills and convey messages to your clients efficiently.
  • Gain the skills of a design led practitioner in order to deliver an innovative and sustainable business solution to a real world organisational issue.
  • Gain a solid understanding of how businesses work in the real world and the context of complex decision making process during a consulting project.
  • Develop crucial skills such as critical thinking, commercial awareness, leadership, cross-cultural understanding, and how to innovate within a project consultancy.

This module encompasses a multidisciplinary approach as it looks at innovation as an integrated approach to dealing with organisational change.

  • Gain a comprehensive understanding of innovation, the current practices and management of innovation and apply this knowledge to current case studies.
  • Explore different types of innovation through real world examples of companies in different sectors.
  • Use creativity and innovation toolkits at different stages of innovation such as in the early stage to identify innovation opportunities and generate ideas.
  • Demonstrate recognition and understanding of your own innovative skill set.

Year Three (Level 6)

Students with HND merit standard or Foundation Degree in a related field can join the programme directly on Level 6 and top-up their qualification to an honours degree in one year.

Continuing students

You will study one of three optional modules plus common modules.

One of the most important stages in the development of an SME is to understand the nature of entrepreneurship, the need for creativity and the ability to analyse your market and plan effectively.

  • Develop your understanding of entrepreneurship and the distinctive characteristics of a SME. critical appreciation of creativity and innovation and your ability to apply such concepts.
  • Consider the importance of market analysis and marketing in order to advance toward the creation of a marketing plan.

Develop and cultivate a creative mind-set through design thinking and innovative practice, bringing together knowledge and creativity to construct a viable computer solution, service or a product.

  • Take your design and innovation ideas, skills and talent to the wider user community of innovative practice.
  • Explore the process of requirements capture, ideation, concept design, development and rapid prototyping to deliver a functional proof-of-concept.
  • Learn design led innovation methods, techniques and processes that are required to develop a policy, system, service or product.

Draw on your range of knowledge and skills developed during your studies and/or work experience to review research literature and evaluate business and management responses to a contemporary issue.

  • Undertake an individual investigation into an applied business problem related to your programme specialism.
  • Explore relevant academic theories, concepts and frameworks and will result in a critical synthesis of business practice and academic theory.
  • Develop an advanced understanding of a business topic of interest understand how to use research in evidence-based decision-making in a global business world.

Operations and finance management ensure competitive advantage for enterprises through integrated risk management approach using innovations, which transform labour, capital, materials, or information into products and services of greater value for customers.

  • Connect the concepts of finance and operations in an enterprise context to identify the best investments for entrepreneurial ideas and appropriate sources of financing
  • Gain knowledge and skills of innovation finance and operations management.
  • Understand, design and apply innovative finance models for various entrepreneurial ventures, improving real investments and revenue management

Combine theory and practice to develop an in-depth understanding about core leadership and management principles and apply these concepts to a range of scenarios.

  • Understand and apply your leadership and management capabilities through a one day leadership and management development bootcamp
  • Explore the practical implementation of leadership concepts and enhance your interpersonal and intrapersonal capabilities through expert feedback and reflective practice
  • Develop and enhance your leadership and management capability to deal with contemporary issues faced by organisations.

Extend your knowledge of SME and Business practice, particularly in the area of strategic thinking, and employ your intellectual and practical skills in an SME context.

 

  • Gain awareness and critically evaluate strategic management, building on the strategic analysis.
  • Build on the market intelligence you have gathered and build a realistic strategy using a range of appropriate strategic tools and frameworks
  • Develop your methodological and synthesis skills in order to evaluate strategic choices

The modules you will study do not require you to purchase additional textbooks although we recommend you allow an additional £250 for the duration of your studies should you choose to purchase any additional reading materials.

Scholarships and bursaries for international students

Depending on the country you are from, you may be eligible for a country bursary and/or scholarship when studying this undergraduate programme.

All of our scholarships and bursaries are automatically applied when we process your application and one of our team will be able to confirm your eligibility.

London Cost of Living Bursary

Eligible international students will receive an automatic bursary for £1,334, covering one month’s living costs in London*, applied at the Conditional Offer as a fee discount. This bursary is effective for intakes in May 2024, September 2024, January 2025 and May 2025. This offer excludes Pre-sessional English, standalone Graduate Certificate programmes and sponsored applicants.

If you receive this bursary, you may still be eligible for additional bursaries and scholarships, these will be confirmed at the Unconditional Offer stage. Full maintenance costs still need to be evidenced when applying for your visa.
