What will I learn on this module?
The aim of the module is to provide you with knowledge and understanding of the business structure, relating this to the business environment and how it can be controlled by the use of information and digital technologies. You will be expected to research and discuss a given topic on Information Technology.
You will be presented with the opportunity to develop practical skills using the tools and techniques required for business and emphasising how businesses can utilise ICT to meet their business needs.
This will be underpinned by acquiring academic and intellectual skills and competencies, through research and development in related business and information system management areas.
This module is concerned primarily with knowledge and understanding of the business structure and how it is influenced by the use of information and digital technologies; thus it will involve practical sessions along with theoretical debate. In particular, you will cover topics such as:
• Business Modelling
• Problem solving using digital technology software
• An introduction into Information Security
• Utilisation of IT within Business
• Comparing software and hardware
• Research and report writing
How will I learn on this module?
The module includes a combination of methods to support learning, including practical sessions, theoretical debates and guided learning. Topics will normally be introduced in class and explored through practical exercises (helping you develop the practical skills needed) and guided learning activities. You will be encouraged to develop independent learning skills to manage research within the lab and field contexts.
How will I be supported academically on this module?
You will be given advice and feedback on your work and progress during the timetabled classes and review points through the academic year. In addition PebblePad, a personal electronic portfolio is used for you to reflect on what you learn, record your achievements and prepare yourself for future employment and to provide module exercises and support materials.

The assessment strategy for the module is focused on producing a portfolio.
You are required to produce a portfolio centred on the activities and tasks in the module workbook in PebblePad. There are 3 formal review points through the semester where a one to one session with a tutor takes place and the progress against the portfolio is reviewed. The portfolio is worth 100% of the marks.
In your portfolio you will be required to produce:
An individual report (2,000 words) ( MLO1)
Evidence of business modelling using Microsoft Office, problem solving and decision making using specialist software (MLO1, MLO2, MLO3, MLO4)
A group presentation and class debates. (MLO1) (ML03) (MLO4)
Formative feedback will be provided through the formal review session throughout the semester.
Feedback on general progress based on class performance will also be given indicating what areas are required for improvement, this will be achieved via the feedback facility in the workbook in PebblePad.
