On this fast-paced degree course, school-based placements form a significant part of your learning. From day one, we will equip you with the skills to inspire and educate young children through early years teaching. Much of your learning on Early Primary Education will be through practical placements with a range of primary schools, offering you a comprehensive knowledge of education in the early and primary years alongside practical teaching methods.

In just three years you will achieve Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) as accredited by the National College for Teaching and Leadership of the Department for Education.

The Early Primary Education BA (hons) offers a broad consideration of the primary phase of education, including the core subjects of the Primary National Curriculum, with a focus specifically in the early years (3–7) context. However, you will also be given the opportunity to work with the whole primary age range of 3–11, qualifying you for primary school teaching.

Learning through lectures, seminars, workshops, school placements and innovative school video link sessions, you will gain a wealth of practical, hands-on experience in real classroom environments teaching primary school children.

Professional Skills Test for Trainee Teachers

Entrants for Initial Teacher Education programmes from September 2013 entry need to be aware of the Government regulations regarding mandatory ‘Professional skills tests for trainee teachers’, in numeracy and literacy. These will be taken immediately after application and prior to any offer being made.

Applicants are advised that they will receive one free test and two resit opportunities which will be self-funded. If applicants fail three tests, resits will not be allowed within a 24 month period, therefore it is strongly advised that applicants visit the Department for Education website to obtain further information and sample practice papers.
