Please note that the last intake to the first year of this course was in the academic year beginning in September 2015. The course has since been revalidated, and if you are interested in starting the first year in 2016/17 or later please follow this link to the latest version.

However, we are still considering applications for from suitably qualified applicants who may want to begin their studies in the second year. Please contact Admissions for advice.

Food science is currently very high in the public’s perception and there could not be a better time to learn more about food science, given global and national food issues.

This course examines all elements of food from production to absorption and is based in modern, specialist laboratories containing high-specification equipment.

You will have the opportunity to carry out stimulating projects in areas including food processing, quality and safety, technology and the identification of relationships between dietary intake and health.

This course is highly practical allowing you to put theory into practice.

The course is taught by highly-qualified and enthusiastic lecturing staff.

There is a six-week work-based learning placement in the second year, and you will be encouraged to undertake an optional industrial placement in the third year, to apply your knowledge and enhance your career prospects.

A range of careers will be open to you when you graduate including product development, technical and quality assurance, marketing, sales or management positions.

Nutrition-focused careers can include working in community-based nutrition projects.
