SYNOPSIS OF MODULE

The module is designed to provide students with a sound knowledge base for Public law, which is a ‘core’ Law Society module. At the end of the module the students should have a working knowledge of the constitution and the issues surrounding it. In addition they should have a working knowledge of police powers, the law relating to public order and judicial review

AIMS OF MODULE

In addition to providing a sound knowledge base, the module aims to develop skills of research, problem-solving , essay-writing and critical analysis which are essential for lawyers and useful transferable skills.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

At the end of the module students should:


• A working knowledge of the UK constitution
• A working knowledge of the law relating to police powers and public order
• A working knowledge of judicial review
• An improved ability to research legal questions
• An improved ability to critically analyse legal questions
• An improved ability to solve legal problems.

DISTANCE LEARNING DELIVERY

Students are provided with a set of materials which includes 18 electronic lectures (powerpoint slides and accompanying commentary). These materials are available electronically via the ELP. Additionally, interactive answers are also provided on the ELP together with advice on examination technique.

Face-to face teaching is by the traditional methods of lectures and seminars. Seminars are often based on past exam questions.
